The European Investment Fund (EIF), for its Mandate Management / Southeastern Europe and EU Neighbourhood Countries Division, is seeking to recruit a:

  • Fund of Funds Officer/Manager – based in Athens (depending on experience)

Appointment will be made on the basis of a fixed term contract of 3 years.

Purpose:

The Fund of Funds (“FoF”) Officer/Manager shall (i) assist in the the implementation of the Greek Equity Fund of Funds, (ii) help promote EIF’s equity activities in the country and (iii) support horizontally other equity mandates/activities within the Division.

Operating Network: 

The incumbent will be based in the EIB Group Office in Athens. S/he will report to the EIF Country Representative of the Division and to the Head of Division for horizontal equity tasks. S/he is expected to work in close cooperation with other EIF services, notably Equity Investments (“EI”) as well as other International Financial Institutions (IFIs) and national promotional institutions.

Responsibilities: 

  • Support, when requested by Equity Investment (EI) teams, the preparation of investment proposals, performance of due diligences, and structuring/negotiating of transactions in Greece;
  • Proactively assist in identifying a suitable pipeline of equity transactions in the Greek market;
  • Regularly update the Greek Equity FoF strategic plan based on ongoing market research and in close cooperation with competent Greek authorities;
  • Manage the day to day of the FoF mandate, including, but not limited to, regular communications with Managing Authorities and organisation of meetings of the High Council;
  • Ensure regular reporting on the implementation progress both to Greek authorities and EIF’s head-office;
  • Assist in sourcing and identifying business opportunities which are considered relevant for development of the equity eco-system in Greece and in other regions if required;
  • Keep a close relationship with the Private Equity, and Venture Capital and Business Angel community in Greece and develop a network of relevant external contacts;
  • Participate and/or support the Head of Division in any horizontal task considered relevant  to the equity market in Greece in general and the FoFs in particular;
  • Gather qualitative and quantitative data and information on the developments in venture capital, private equity and innovation landscape in Greece and on any aspects that may affect the investment portfolio;
  • Participate as necessary in relevant researches;
  • Implement and respond timely and efficiently to reporting and monitoring requirements in close liaison with colleagues from EI and Middle & Back Office services (MIBO).

Qualifications: 

  • University degree, preferably at postgraduate level, in Finance, International Relations, Business Administration, Engineering or Mathematics; an MBA would be an advantage;
  • At least 5 years’ relevant professional experience in the financial environment, preferably in the Private Equity and Venture Capital sector, of which 3 years in a position with similar responsibilities;
  • Prior experience gained in an IFI would be an advantage;
  • Knowledge of the specific financial market and asset class;
  • Clearly demonstrated track record of performance and achievement in a fast paced, complex and multicultural environment;
  • Proven Financial Analysis and Research skills;
  • Proven Project Management skills;
  • Proficiency in the use of standard IT applications;
  • Fluency in English. Knowledge of the Greek language would be considered a strong advantage.
